Instructor Qualifications
Before booking a SnowSkool course, the majority of our clients do a significant amount of research into the pros and cons of the different providers of ski instructor courses and snowboard instructor courses on the market. After settling comfortably into the decision that SnowSkool provides the best instructor courses at the best price, the question is now about which course: Banff in Canada, Big White in Canada, Cardrona in New Zealand, or Three Valleys in France.
In our experience, one of the main concerns is the perceived quality of the qualification that you are training for. In Canada, skiers work towards the Level 1 and Level 2 Ski Instructor exams of the Canadian Ski Instructors’ Alliance (CSIA), while snowboarders shoot for the Level 1 and Level 2 Snowboard Instructor exams of the Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors (CASI). In New Zealand, skiers are trained to obtain the Level 1 and Level 2 Ski Instructor exams of the New Zealand Snowsport Instructors’ Alliance (NZSIA), while snowboarders’ goal is to pass the Level 1 and Level 2 Snowboard Instructor exams of the recently created Snowboard Instructors of New Zealand (SBINZ). In France, SnowSkool offers the qualifications of the British Association of Snowsport Instructors (BASI). Skiers and snowboarders alike sit the Level 1 Ski Instructor or Level 1 Snowboard Instructor exam before continuing on with the Level 2 Ski Instructor or Level 2 Snowboard Instructor exam.
Undoubtedly the two most common questions we are asked are:
Can I work with my Level 1 Qualification?
Yes. With your Level 1 instructor qualification, you can work in a few countries throughout the world including Australia (most resorts require you to take an assessment test before hiring you), Canada, Japan, smaller European countries and the USA. With your NZ Level 1 qualifications, you can also work in New Zealand.
Where can I work with my Level 2 Qualification?
Armed with your Level 2 instructor qualifications from CSIA/ CASI, NZSIA/ SBINZ or BASI, you are entitled to work in many different countries throughout the world. The Level 2 instructor qualification is well-recognised. In the past six years, graduates of SnowSkool ski instructor or snowboard instructor courses, who have obtained their Level 2 qualification and who have the required working visa, have succeeded in obtaining ski instructor jobs or snowboard instructor jobs in Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland, UK and the USA.
