Snowboard Instructor Qualifications in USA
At SnowSkool USA at Big Sky in Montana, snowboard instructor trainees will take on the qualifications of the American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI). Training on the course will take place up to Level 2.
AASI Level 1 Snowboard Instructor
Level 1 of the AASI is a 3-day assessment during which candidates are examined on their teaching/riding demonstrations and their technical knowledge. Candidates must be able to comfortably ride the following terrain to take the exam: all green terrain, blue terrain including variable off-piste conditions & bumps, easy groomed black terrain and small freestyle features (50-50 on a ride on box, straight airs off small kickers).
Able to teach: Beginner snowboarders
AASI Level 2 Snowboard Instructor
Level 2 of the AASI is a significant step up in both riding and teaching ability. It consists of a 3-day riding module and a 2-day teaching module that are undertaken separately.
A Level 2 candidate must show that they can comfortably ride the following terrain: all green terrain, all blue terrain including off-piste conditions & bumps, black terrain including groomed & off-piste, and small to medium freestyle features (180s four ways, grabs, 50-50s on rails/boxes, grabs in the pipe).
Able to teach: Intermediate snowboarders up to and including carved turns.
