Short Ski Instructors Course

Early-season, 3-week ski instructors course

Our newest ski instructor course will take place at the beginning of the Canadian winter season. While resorts with sufficient early season snowfall are few and far between, early season snow in Banff is pretty much guaranteed! Last season it was one of the first places to see the record breaking dumps of snow that hit Canada throughout the winter. Off-snow Banff is a lively town, brimming with bars, nightlife, and other activities to keep even the most energetic entertained.

The idea behind our early season short course is two-fold. If you have a winter season to spare and a working visa to boot then this course ensures that you’ll have the qualifications you need to start work as a Ski instructor. That combined with our wealth of Canadian snow school contacts should have you working as an instructor in no time! For those that aren’t blessed with a whole winter season to spare our short course allows you to take a break from the working world, get out into the mountains, hugely improve your skiing, and come home with a professional qualification that was fun to gain. And who knows… you might even decide it’s time for a career change!

Who goes on this course?

People on SnowSkool's ski instructors course

This is the shortest of SnowSkool’s ski instructors courses in Canada at only three-weeks. As a result, we expect students to arrive as strong skiers - ideally red-runners who are able to ski comfortably on-piste in most conditions.

Normally the group is made up of the gap year crowd (School-leavers/ University graduates) out for the season and those taking a holiday from work to improve their skiing and gain a qualifications. For those with the right to work in Canada, we can help you to find work as a ski instructor for the rest of the season.

Still thinking it might be cooler to do a long course? Check out SnowSkool's other skiing instructor courses.

Ski Instructors' Qualifications

CSIA Level 1 Ski Instructor

CSIA Ski Instructors Qualification

The CSIA (Canadian Ski Instructors’ Alliance) system has four levels of ski instructor qualifications. The SnowSkool 3-weeker trains you for the CSIA Level 1 exam. Despite being considered an entry level qualification, you can work throughout North America as well as in Andorra, Australia, Bulgaria, Japan and in snowdomes and dry slopes in the UK with your Level 1.

Becoming a ski instructor and understanding the technical aspects of your skiing will massively improve your technique. Most importantly, you will learn how to self-analyse meaning that the improvements to your skiing should continue long after the course is complete.

SnowSkool Case Study - Gary Young

Gazza went on our early-season course in 2008. he already had a Canadian working visa and fancied his chances at getting his Level 1 qualification and then geting some work - his bet paid off!

After gaining his Level 1 (above standard on both skiing and teaching), Gazza landed a job at Nakiska where he saw out the rest of the season. Gazza was last heard off working one of the ski hills in Bulgaria as a CSIA Level 2 instructor. Get in touch if you read this, mate!
