Ski Instructor Qualifications in Canada

SnowSkool ski instructor training courses in Canada offer the qualifications of the Canadian Ski Instructors' Alliance (CSIA) and the Canadian Ski Coaches Federation (CSCF). As active member of the International Ski Instructors' Alliance (ISIA) - the regulatory body which governs ski instructors internationally - all the qualifications offered by SnowSkool & CSIA and SnowSkool & CSCF are recognised internationally and can lead to you gaining work throughout the world. Both the CSIA & CSCF ensure a nationwide ski teaching standard in Canada while also promoting and teaching the importance of snow safety.

CSIA Level 1 Instructor

This four-day exam is split into two main parts - skiing and teaching - and candidates have to pass both to gain the qualification. Through organising and planning the needs of each lesson, candidates will be expected to demonstrate an ability to teach beginner and early-intermediate skiers to ski linked parallel turns.

CSIA Level 2 Instructor

The five-day level 2 exam is also split into two parts - skiing and teaching - and is a big step-up from the level 1 exam. As a result, candidates will have to show focus and development throughout the entire SnowSkool programme to succeed. In the level 2 exam, candidates will be expected to demonstrate an ability to teach intermediate skiers, effectively analyse their own skiing and work on terrain adaptation (teach in different conditions/ ski terrain).

CSCF Level 1 Race Coach

The three day Race Coach exam is very popular for skiers who are keen to improve their speed and racing technique through the gates (slalom and grand slalom) and pass these skills on to children.

CSIA Snow Park Certification

The three-day Snow Park certification is also very popular amongst the younger skiers who are prepared to throw themselves about a bit! Successful candidates will demonstrate tricks such as switch skiing, various grabs, 180s & 360s and the ability to grind basic rails. But most importantly, also demonstrate an aptitude to teach these skills!

Snowboard Instructor Qualifications in Canada

SnowSkool snowboard instructor training courses in Canada offer the qualifications of the Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors (CASI). An active member of the International Ski Instructors' Alliance (ISIA) - the regulatory body which governs snowsport instructors internationally - all the qualifications offered by SnowSkool & CASI are recognised internationally and can lead to you gaining work throughout the world.

CASI ensures that a national standard of safe and efficient snowboard instruction is maintained to serve the Canadian snowboarding public and the snowboarding industry.

CASI Level 1 Instructor

This three-day exam is split into two main parts - riding and teaching - and candidates have to pass both to gain the qualification. As well as demonstrating an ability to ride with good technique and control on intermediate terrain, candidates must also show that they can organise and plan a lesson for beginner to early intermediate snowboarders.

CASI Level 2 Instructor

The four-day level 2 exam is also split into two parts - riding and teaching - and is a big step-up from the level 1 exam. As a result, candidates will have to show focus and development throughout the entire SnowSkool programme to succeed. Riding-wise, candidates will have to demonstrate more advanced snowboarding techniques in different terrains - moguls, terrain park and crud - as well as advanced carving technique. Candidates will also have to display an aptitude to teach switch riding, intermediate carving and advanced sliding turns.

CASI Carving Instructor

This two-day course will take you from basic carving turns through intermediate and advance carving turns to down un-weighted carving turns and give you the ability to carve very low to the ground and pass these skills on to others.

CASI Park Instructor

This two-day examination is a favourite amongst SnowSkool's riders and takes places in the terrain park and half-pipe. Through practice and demonstration you will learn to teach park skills to basic/ intermediate riders and these skills include: straight airs, a selection of grabs and spins (180s and 360s, both front- and backside) and riding the pipe.
